Pineapple In Pregnancy: Does It Cause Miscarriage?
It is best to avoid certain foods during pregnancy due to their composition and preservation methods. They might have detrimental effects on your digestive health, which may cause great discomfort.
While pineapple is a sweet, exotic fruit, some people in society believe it is a major labour inducer and, in some cases, leads to a miscarriage. This rationale is because some pregnant women have experienced mild contractions immediately after consuming pineapple.
Pineapple contains an enzyme called Bromelain. This enzyme is thought to enter the cervix, break down the tissues and induce labour.
However, experts believe that bromelain cannot induce labour because it is inactive in the stomach due to the acidity of the stomach. Little is known about this enzyme, and the bulk of its content is found in the core of pineapples, which isn’t edible.
Pineapple is safe to eat during pregnancy. Ensure to wash thoroughly and buy from hygienic sources.
